Guadec is about people

Following on from what Luis said in his talk regarding Gnome being about people, I hacked up some quick and dirty text mosaic code that takes in an image file and a list of words and outputs a pdf file with a text mosaic. I did one of the Guadec poster and used the list of professional participants listed in the programme as a proof of concept. The pdf generated is 33MB so I have just uploaded a screencast created with Istanbul showing the pdf at different zoom levels.

The screencast is at http://dev.gentoo.org/~zaheerm/guadec-as-people.ogg and is in Ogg Theora format at 1280×800 resolution.

I used Cairo 1.2.0, pycairo cvs, pygtk‘s gdk pixbuf and python to do it. I will release my source code as soon as its cleaner. It is currently 86 lines of code with comments and whitespace included.

In other news, I have uploaded our Guadec 2006 photos to flickr and they are tagged with guadec2006.
